Claude Code account guide: regions, billing and appeals

Check Claude's supported regions, Pro and Max access to Claude Code, web versus app-store billing, identity verification, account security and official appeal steps.

Before paying for Claude Code—or troubleshooting a login, payment, or verification problem—check region availability, purchase channel, and account status separately. This guide summarizes Anthropic’s public documentation. Policies and prices can change; the official service and checkout pages determine what is available to you.

The short answer: An individual Pro or Max subscription can include Claude Code. An App Store or Google Play price is not the same as Claude’s web checkout price. Payment or identity verification does not grant immunity from account restrictions. If your location is absent from Anthropic’s supported list, check the service rules before creating an account: Anthropic names account creation from an unsupported location as one possible reason for a ban.

1. Check whether your location is supported

Open Anthropic’s supported countries and regions policy and read the Claude.ai section. The same page has a separate list for API access; the two should not be conflated. As of this guide’s review date, mainland China does not appear in the Claude.ai list. Recheck the live policy before relying on any regional information.

Seeing Claude in an app store, or seeing an in-app purchase in your currency, does not by itself establish that Claude.ai account access is supported where you are. Anthropic’s safeguards and appeals guidance specifically lists account creation from an unsupported location among possible reasons for a ban. No public Anthropic guidance says that changing an app-store region, spoofing a location, or wiping device records makes an account safe from restrictions.

2. Know what pays for Claude Code

According to Anthropic’s Claude Code subscription guide, individuals with Pro or Max can sign in to Claude Code with the same Claude account. Usage is shared with Claude’s other interfaces. Install from the official documentation and verify that you sign in to the account holding your subscription.

Claude Console API usage is billed separately from Pro and Max subscriptions. Anthropic also notes that an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY in your environment can cause Claude Code to authenticate with that key and incur API charges instead of using your plan. If you see unexpected charges, check your Claude Code login, usage, and Console billing before assuming your account is banned.

3. Compare web, Apple, and Google billing correctly

Purchase channelWho handles payment and receiptsWhere to manage it

Claude for iOSApple App StoreApple subscriptions and receipts
Claude for AndroidGoogle PlayGoogle Play subscriptions and receipts

Anthropic explains these distinctions in its paid-plan billing FAQ. Web subscriptions accept credit or debit cards; payment methods for mobile subscriptions depend on the relevant store. Pro prices vary by region and tax treatment, and Max mobile prices may differ from web prices. This site’s price lookup labels the channel, currency, plan, source, and last verified time. Your actual checkout and receipt remain the final price record.

If a web card is declined, check your bank, any 3-D Secure challenge, and whether the billing address matches your bank’s records. Anthropic’s card-decline guidance also asks you to confirm that the card’s origin and billing location are supported. Do not submit a made-up billing address. If you paid but your account looks free, check the sign-in email and payment status first, then use official support.

4. Secure your account and sessions

Keep control of the email account and one-time links used to sign in. Access your account through claude.ai or official apps. If you used a shared device or notice unfamiliar activity, go to Settings → Account → Active sessions on Claude’s website, review the listed devices, and terminate sessions you do not recognize. Anthropic documents these steps in its session-management guide. You can also log out of all active sessions from account settings if you suspect unauthorized access.

Do not hand over login links, codes, session tokens, or identity documents to a third party offering to log in or “pass verification” for you. Deleting local configuration may remove your own working sessions or settings, and it cannot change Anthropic’s decision about the account. First identify whether the problem is with the account, payment, or a local sign-in.

5. If you are asked to verify your identity

Anthropic’s identity-verification guide says some users may be prompted to verify for certain capabilities or platform checks. An individual generally needs an original, unexpired, legible government-issued physical photo ID, and may need a phone camera for a live selfie. Anthropic lists passports, driver’s licenses, and national ID cards as common examples. Screenshots, scans, non-government IDs, and temporary paper IDs do not meet the published requirements.

If verification fails because an image is blurry or a document cannot be read, follow the prompt to retry. If you exhaust your attempts, contact Anthropic through its help form. Passing verification is not a permanent whitelist: Anthropic says an account can still be banned afterward for policy or terms violations. Do not send your ID photos to this site or our WeChat contact.

6. If you receive a warning or account restriction

Save the official notice, its date, the account email, and any relevant receipt or error screen. First distinguish a failed payment, the wrong signed-in account, a usage limit, and an explicit account restriction. Describe what happened factually; avoid guesses about internal enforcement systems and never post passwords, sign-in codes, or full identity documents publicly.

If you believe your account was suspended or terminated by mistake, follow Anthropic’s appeal instructions: sign in to claude.ai with the affected account and open the appeal form from the restricted-account page. Anthropic says you must be logged in to submit it. Its same guidance describes how to raise a mistaken usage-policy warning. Anthropic reviews appeals; no third party can promise an outcome or timeline. Some restricted users can still export data through the official account page, subject to limits.

Common misconceptions

  • “The app store shows a price, so my location must be supported.” Store pricing and Anthropic’s account availability policy are separate; check the official supported list.
  • “Changing payment channels or deleting local files removes ban risk.” Anthropic provides no such guarantee; these actions can also create billing confusion or erase local settings.
  • “Identity verification means my account can never be restricted.” Anthropic expressly says a verified account can still be banned.
  • “A Claude Code payment prompt means I must buy Pro or Max again.” Check the signed-in account, whether an API key is taking precedence, and your usage status first.
